Cut and Paste Travel is made by Cut and Paste LLC, a limited liability company registered in California, United States. This policy covers the iPhone app and this website.

If you do not sign in, nothing is collected

The app works without an account. In that case your trips are stored on your phone and nowhere else, and no information about you reaches us or anybody else. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking in the app at all — signed in or not.

What is collected when you do sign in

Signing in exists so trips can reach your other devices and the people you share them with. That requires storing four things, all tied to your account:

We do not ask for your location. The app searches Apple Maps using the words you type, so it never requests access to where your phone is.

Who can see a trip

Only the people invited to it. A trip is shared by handing somebody a code, and only somebody who redeems a code becomes able to read it. Nothing is public, nothing is searchable, and there is no feed anywhere of what anyone is doing.

An invitation is never matched to an email address, so inviting somebody does not require knowing one.

Where it is stored

On Google's Firebase, running on Google Cloud, which we use as a service provider to hold your data on your behalf. Google processes it under its own terms and does not use it for its own purposes. Sign-in itself is handled by Google Sign-In or by Apple, depending on which you choose, and each of those companies knows you signed in to this app.

Your trips are also kept on your phone, which is what lets the app work without a connection.

What is never done with it

Deleting it

In the app: Account → Delete account. This removes your name, your email address, your account, and the trips that only you can edit. Trips you share with other people are left in place and you come off them, because they are their trip too. Everything on the device is removed last. There is no undo, and you do not need to ask us to do it.

If you signed in with Apple, deleting your account also tells Apple to revoke the app's access, so it stops appearing in your Apple ID settings.

Signing out, rather than deleting, removes the trips from that device and leaves them in your account.

How long it is kept

Until you delete it. Trips stay for as long as somebody on them keeps them, and your account details stay until you delete the account.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Your rights

You can see everything we hold about you in the app itself — it is your trips, your name, and your email address. If you are covered by the California Consumer Privacy Act, the GDPR, or a similar law, you have the right to access, correct, or delete that information, and to ask us not to sell it, which we do not do in any case. Deleting your account does all of it at once. Write to us if you would rather have it done another way.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it and the new version appears here.
